2015 Update:   Nancy attended the State University of New York at Albany after graduation, starting out as a psychology major, then graduating with a degree in education. She worked during her college years for Senator Earl W. Brydges at the NY State Senate. It’s amazing that she got through college in the ’60’s: working for the “establishment,” protesting the “establishment,” and drinking at many “establishments”…

She student taught at Saratoga Springs in 1968, and this experience convinced her that junior high teaching was the right fit for her. Thank you, Miss Dunham!! After completing her master’s degree in English, she began her teaching career in seventh grade language arts at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland, an Albany suburb.

Nancy’s husband was an art teacher and lacrosse and football coach at Guilderland HS. They married in July, 1974. They love “being physical,” i.e. downhill skiing, tennis, inline skating, and working out. Plus, all those years of trying out for cheerleading and the resulting shin splints were a good preparation for the 500+ football and lacrosse games that Arty coached or played in. WHEW! Life stats: no house, no kids, and a great cat, Tasha.

Nancy’s sister Pat (R-H, class of ’68), also married a Guilderland teacher, and has one son. Pat lives in Troy, NY, only 20 minutes away and they have become Broderick “soul sisters.”

Nancy retired in 2002, after 30 years of teaching. Life has been, and is, good and she looks forward to a fulfilling future of athletics, attending plays, ballets, operas, musicals, and concerts, (Miriam Flatt got her hooked on live performances with all those wonderful musicals) and spending time with family and friends.
