Delores Kozody
After graduating, I held various clerical positions in Lockport and Albion, and finally ended up back at Roy-Hart on the high school office staff, becoming secretary to Ed Sanderson, high school principal, until my marriage in 1971. My daughter Connie was born in 1974 and she ultimately went to Middleport Elementary School. She attended NCCC and University of Buffalo and has AA and BS degrees, and currently resides in Buffalo, NY, but is hoping to move to Virginia when she can find better employment.
I divorced in 1982 and stuck around in New York until 1986 when I finally moved to Houston, Texas.
In 1987, I began working as an Office Manager for the Challenger Center for Space Science Education, which was founded after the shuttle explosion. This was a very interesting job which afforded me the luxury of meeting President George and his lovely wife Barbara, along with Senators John Glenn, Jake Garn, various movie, music and media personalities, such as Brooke Shields, Lee Greenwood, Kirk Douglas, Cokie Roberts, Billie Jean King, Tom Brokaw, astronauts Kathy Sullivan, Joe Allen, Bill Buchli and many others at a Washington, DC, gala fundraising benefit. Unfortunately, our Houston-based office closed in 1990 and moved to DC where the "big bucks" were for funding, but I opted not to go along.
I found a job with an attorney doing mostly real estate liens and family estate planning. In 1994, I left there and starting working with Service Corporation International, which is the largest funeral industry conglomerate in the U.S. I've been with them for 11 years. Most of that time has been as a sales processor, reviewing contract entries for pre-need and at-need sales and inputting funeral contracts into a corporate data base. Recently, I was appointed as one of 25 computer trainers for a new in-house software program for all funeral home and cemetery locations throughout the US. I've decided that when I retire (if I ever make it), I'm going to write a book entitled "If you think you've got problems living, just wait till you're dead." You wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen families do in funeral homes!
My mom passed away on September 28, 2004. Dad still resides in Royalton Center near Gasport and is not in good health. He has had many heart problems and is recovering from a stroke he had in November of 2004.
Of course, by now you have guessed that I currently reside in Texas -- Lubbock to be exact. When I get the chance, I love to visit my sister Donna and her husband Bob on their 97-acre ranch in Franklin, Texas, just 45 minutes north of College Station, home of the Texas A&M Aggies. This causes problems because Lubbock is home to the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. GO RED RAIDERS!
I have a dachshund by the name of Fritz who loves to curl up in my lap and watch TV. My hobbies are needlework, gardening, and college basketball games. Life is good. Who could ask for more?
