I attended Cortland State in Cortland, NY, where I played college football and obtained a degree in Geology. I also met Jeanne Van Dyke. Just after college, we were married in 1969 on Long Island and Al Webster was one of my best men. We moved to Oklahoma for work where I explored for oil for several years and also attended graduate school. To escape Oklahoma, we moved to Oregon for more graduate school in civil engineering. We finally settled down in Seattle, WA, in 1974, where I went to work as a geotechnical/civil engineer. Also, in 1974 we had our first of two children, both boys. We have lived in the same house (remodeled twice) since then. We really like the Northwest for the skiing, biking, and cultural activities. Seattle has a fabulous jazz and theater scene. The sports have finally gotten better.
After working for several large engineering firms, I co-started my own design engineering firm whose two major clients were the Union Pacific and BNSF Railroads. We were quite successful and after 13 years of being on the road all over the west and very busy, it was time to slow down. I then sold or merged my smaller engineering firm into a larger one where I worked full time till the end of 2014. The new firm is Jacobs Associates, and we predominately design or construction manage the building of tunnels and related heavy civil construction projects. The new firm has a national presence and even has a NYC office. I must admit it is hard to give up or retire from something you enjoy doing.
Both our boys are out of college and live in the Seattle area. One is a civil engineer and the other is a construction cost estimator for a marine construction company. For those of you who knew my father the dentist, he passed away in 2000 after living a full life to the age of 92.
2015 Update: Since 2010, all I can say is that Jeanne & I are still the same except now we have two new daughters-in-law and two grandchildren; one with each son. This all happened in 3 years and it is wonderful. Wyatt and Emily are such fun. At the time of the reunion they will be about 2.5 and 1.5 years in age. Wyatt is older. I must admit, we were never sure either son was ever going to get married but when they found the right gal, it was time for children. Both were in their late 30s. Also, the grandkids are so much fun; I now understand.
We plan on staying in the Seattle area where our sons reside as well. We are still actively skiing, biking and travelling. Please come and visit if you are out our way. All are welcomed.
