Since leaving the hallowed halls of Roy-Hart, I have been to Batavia to go to LPN school with Sandy Donnor. After graduating from school, I stayed in Batavia and worked in the geriatric field at St. Jerome and Genesse Memorial Hospitals. In 1967, Dwayne and I were married and we returned to live in Middleport until our first-born, Steven, developed an allergy to furnace dust, which led us to move to Bradenton, Florida.
I continued to work in the geriatric field (God knows there are a lot of them here in Florida) and Dwayne found himself settling at the Manatee District School Board as a Pest Control/Safety Manager. In 1973, our second child, Cynthia, came along. I had the opportunity to get into a local hospital on the ground floor – literally, there wasn't even tile or carpet down yet. It has been quite a learning experience and I still work there, but in a different capacity. I returned to school and got my degree in 1982. In 1995, I went to China as a representative of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses to lecture on coronary artery disease and cardiac catheterization procedures in the university school of nursing in 5 different cities. That turned out to be a great and awaking experience.
We have been blessed with two grandchildren -- a boy, Cody, 15, and a girl, Jessica, 11. We are currently raising Jessie and enjoying it more than when we were young. I guess it’s because we know more now than we did then.
I am currently a Clinical Manager of a Catheterization Laboratory in the same hospital I helped to open in 1973. We have 3 procedure rooms and manage to do over 3000 cases a year, which include diagnostic, interventional cardiac procedures, peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures, and present community programs to educate the public.
I am looking forward to returning to Western New York for a happy occasion, since the only other times I have returned were to bury family. See y'all in July!
